How we protect your information

The short version

Your journal is yours. We don’t read it, sell it or share it. If you sign in, it’s stored so only you can see it, unless you choose to share a week with a Journal Circle you belong to.

What we collect

• Sign-up forms (Starter Kit, Groups, the Commitment, email updates): your name, email, and where you live (city and ZIP) if you give it, plus how you’d like to take part. We use this to send you Rooted resources and connect you with people nearby.
• Accounts: your email address and the name you choose to show your circles.
• Your journal: what you write in the Starter Kit. Without an account it stays only on your device. With an account it’s also stored securely so you can use it on any device.
• Journal Circles: the circles you create or join, and any weeks you choose to share with them.

Who can see your journal

• You. Always.
• Members of a circle, only for the weeks you choose to share with that circle, and only while you’re both members.
• No one else on Rooted. Our database rules enforce this, not only the website.
• Our service providers store the data for us (Supabase for accounts and journals, Netlify for the website and forms). Like any website owner, Rooted’s administrators could technically access stored data. We commit never to read, use or share your journal except where the law requires it or to protect someone’s safety.

Your choices

• Stop sharing any week at any time by unchecking the circle.
• Leave any circle at any time. Your shared entries in that circle are removed.
• Download your journal at any time from the Starter Kit page.
• Delete your account from the Starter Kit or Journal Circles page. This permanently deletes your saved journal, circles you started, and everything you shared.
• Unsubscribe from emails using the link in any email.

What we never do

We never sell or rent your information, and we never use your journal for advertising.

Age

Accounts and sign-ups are for adults 18 and older. Students can take part through a parent or guardian while we prepare Rooted Students with parental consent and safeguards.
